HOME SCHOOL CENTRE
In a nutshell, EDUQUIP Home-School Centre provides a service where we partner with the parents to assist with the child’s learning in the form of daily coaching and tutoring at the Home-school Centre, using the IMPAQ CAPS curriculum.
NEW TO HOME-SCHOOLING?
Maybe you’ve been home-schooling for years, or perhaps
you’re only just making the change to from mainstream to home-schooling. You
might be looking at a temporary alternative… Whatever your reason and
circumstances, any change can be daunting. That’s why EDUQUIP is here to help
you.
IS HOME-SCHOOLING LEGAL?
The law states that any parent may provide education for
his/her own children at home. Government requires, however, that at least 60%
of the home-schooling takes place at home with the parent. EDUQUIP is not a
cottage school, but a tuition and support centre. So, while the parent
officially remains responsible for their child’s schooling, we understand that
this is a major responsibility to take on, and many parents aren’t ready to
dive in solo and don’t have the time or resources to make the daily commitment
to home-schooling a new primary focus in their lives at the moment.
SO DOES EDUQUIP HELP?
But have no fear. Firstly, EDUQUIP assists the parent
in taking care of the initial applications and transitions, if needed. We
offer continued help in guiding you through all the admin and planning involved
in recordkeeping and navigating daily academic goals. Depending on the
level of involvement you want to have, our services can vary from offering mild
academic guidance to your child, to keeping record as required on your
behalf.
You then have the option for your child to attend daily
coaching sessions Mondays to Thursdays, from 8:00am to 2:00pm and Fridays from
8:00am to 12:30pm. FET phase learners also attend extra hours, depending
on subject choices. Learners may be dropped off from 6:30am, where
supervised reading/study sessions will take place until daily tutoring
starts.
During tutoring sessions we guide your child to help them
understand the learning material and to navigate what is expected of
them. The end goal is that as they grow older, they learn to plan their
day and take more responsibility for their own learning and as they gain
independence.
If we identify that further specialised academic
assistance is needed, we will discuss this with you, so you can book individual
tutoring sessions. For more information on tutoring options available,
please click the MENU to get in touch with us.
THE PARENT’s RESPONSIBILITY
Partnering with EDUQUIP allows the parent the freedom and
time to spend with their child personally. Your focus can primarily be on
teaching them the values that are important to you. You will have access
to the online learning portal to track your child’s progress and will receive
regular feedback from us regarding your child’s progress.
FLEXIBILITY
Home-schooling also gives you the flexibility for your child
to take time off for important events without falling behind. During
these times they can continue to access their daily portals on the Internet and
receive support from EDUQUIP in the form of WhatsApp and email.
WHICH CURRICULUM TO USE?
There are various good home-school curricula to choose
from. Most of these help parents to fulfil the South African Education
department requirements and administration. At EDUQUIP we make use of
IMPAQ’s accredited CAPS curriculum. The FET (grade 10-12) learners are
registered under SACAI and the grade 12’s write their NSC (National Senior
Certificate) matric exams.
WHAT DOES IMPAQ PROVIDE?
IMPAQ education packages are CAPS aligned.
They provide curriculum for all phases.
Basically, they provide the:
- Text
books (printed hard copies or electronic versions)
- Schedule
of work to be done
- Website
where you log in and keep track of your progress
- Tutor/parent
guide
- Tests/exams and marking of formal assessments
- “Behind-the-scenes” admin required by the government
